Question 1: Is it "free"?

The FreeStyle Libre 3 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system may be covered by Medicare for eligible beneficiaries who meet medical and coverage requirements.

Family Medical Supplies accepts Medicare and can bill Medicare directly for eligible items. If you have a secondary insurance plan, it may help cover any remaining balance depending on your benefits.

Question 2: How accurate is the FreeStyle Libre system?

Question 3: Is the sensor waterproof?

Yes, to an extent. Showering is fine, it will not hurt the sensor. Swimming or being submerged in water is safe for up to 30 minutes.*Note: THE SENSOR NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY DRY BEFORE YOU TRY TO SCAN IT AGAIN!*

Question 4: Does it hurt to put the FreeStyle Libre sensor on?

No. The needle of the sensor is so fine, it will not hurt. 

Question 5: How do I put on the FreeStyle Libre sensor?

Clean the area with a prep pad first. The best way to adhere the sensor is to make an arm muscle and apply the sensor straight up into the back of the arm. This makes sure the sensor is straight and flat. Here is a video to show you how: https://youtu.be/ePnLXUcdBfc?si=L2ecxc5VfetrEODS

Question 6: Is there an app for my phone that can connect to the sensor?

Question 7: My sensor gave me an error and won’t scan OR came off before the 14 days is up, can you send me a new sensor?

Abbott has a customer care number that patients can call into and ask for a replacement sensor. They will mail them a replacement at no charge. Abbott's phone number is: (855)632-8658 All replacements must go through the manufacturer, Abbott. Medicare will not pay for replacements.
